On 19th April 2025—World Liver Day—Liver Health Foundation successfully launched its Food is Medicine Campaign at Mosa Court Apartments in Rwenzori Hall, Kampala. This initiative marked a significant milestone in promoting liver health through nutritional awareness and healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Moses Muwanga officiated the campaign on behalf of Hon. Hanifah Kawooya, Minister for General Health Duties, and was supported by senior officials, including SCP Dr. Nuwamanya Emmanuel, Deputy Director of Police Health Services.

On 19th April 2025 — World Liver Day — Liver Health Foundation successfully launched its Food is Medicine Campaign at Mosa Court Apartments in Rwenzori Hall, Kampala. This initiative marked a significant milestone in promoting liver health through nutritional awareness and healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Moses Muwanga officiated the campaign on behalf of the Hon. Hanifah Kawooya, Minister for General Health Duties, and was supported by senior officials, including SCP Dr. Nuwamanya Emmanuel, Deputy Director of Police Health Services.

The campaign seeks to build public understanding of how diet influences liver function and overall well-being, and to encourage Ugandans to adopt food-based approaches to disease prevention and health management.

    Interactive discussions and breakout workshops allowed students, teachers, and community leaders to share insights and personal stories related to food and health.

  • Nutrition Exhibitions:

    Information booths showcased locally available liver-friendly foods, nutritional guides, and recipes. Attendees received educational materials emphasising affordable and sustainable dietary habits.

  • Stakeholder Dialogue:

    Civil society organisations, schools, and local health professionals exchanged ideas on how to integrate nutrition-focused initiatives into existing health and educational frameworks.

  • The event concluded with a formal call encouraging all Ugandans to incorporate healthier food choices into their daily lives. The campaign will now expand to other regions across Uganda, promoting nutrition as a tool for community-wide liver health improvement.


The Food is Medicine campaign launch served as a powerful platform to spotlight the inextricable link between nutrition and liver health. The event united health professionals, policymakers, educators, and community leaders in a shared commitment to preventive health. As the campaign scales nationally, it promises to strengthen public health by fostering a culture of informed dietary practices, ensuring that food is not only sustenance but a vital form of medicine.
