Liver Health Foundation (LHF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase awareness, prevention, improved care, and support for individuals affected by liver diseases and liver cancer.

The foundation advocates for early detection and better treatment through community-driven, evidence-based interventions. Campaign Overview

World Hepatitis Day 2025 was commemorated in Ngando Sub–County, Butambala District, on July 28, 2025. The celebration aimed to raise awareness about hepatitis, promote testing, vaccination, and treatment, and encourage community dialogue on public health.

Over 600 participants attended, including community leaders, healthcare workers, students, and residents. The day featured free health screenings, vaccinations, nutritional education, and interactive sessions on hepatitis prevention and control.


Objectives of the Event

  • Raise public awareness about hepatitis and its prevention.

  • Provide free testing for Hepatitis B, HIV, and Syphilis.

  • Engage communities in health education and discussions.

  • Promote early diagnosis, treatment, and healthy lifestyles.


Testing and Counseling Summary

  • Vaccination:
    680 participants who tested negative for Hepatitis B received their first vaccine dose.

  • Counseling & Follow-Up:
    Newly diagnosed cases received immediate counseling and were guided for referral and continued medical care.


Participation Statistics

  • Total Participants: 700+

  • School-going learners: 60% of attendees

  • Elderly participation: 67%

  • Youth turnout: Relatively low — a focus area for future engagement.

Each participant received a personal medical record slip for both testing and vaccination to aid in follow-up. Additionally, 800 “My Hepatitis File Record” brochures branded with the World Hepatitis Day logo were distributed.


Nutrition & Health Education

Participants received practical education on liver-friendly diets, including fruits and vegetables beneficial to liver function. Displays and demonstrations highlighted the role of nutrition in managing and preventing hepatitis.


Feedback and Observations

  • Strong leadership presence enhanced community confidence and engagement.

  • Excellent mobilization among primary schools, reflecting effective grassroots outreach.

  • Low participation from older youths signals the need for targeted health messaging.

  • The discovery of new Hepatitis B cases underscores the importance of sustained public health education and regular screening.


Recommendations

  1. Increase youth-focused awareness campaigns to boost participation.

  2. Continue regular health screenings to monitor and support positive cases, reducing mother-to-child transmission risks.

  3. Strengthen partnerships with schools and local organizations for continuous health education.

  4. Enhance outreach to encourage periodic liver health checks in the community.

  5. Establish a follow-up program for individuals newly diagnosed with Hepatitis B and other infections.

  6. Sustain collaborations with health authorities to expand access to testing, treatment, and vaccines.


Conclusion

The World Hepatitis Day 2025 celebration in Ngando Sub–County was a remarkable success, delivering essential healthcare services and empowering communities through knowledge and prevention.

Liver Health Foundation extends gratitude to all partners, leaders, and participants who made this event possible. Continued collaboration between community leaders, healthcare workers, and local authorities remains essential in the fight against Hepatitis and other liver-related diseases in Uganda and East Africa.
